Mother (2009)

168) Mother (2009)

A mother desperately searches for the killer that framed her son for a girl’s horrific murder.

9/10 – From the writer & director of the increasingly popular Snowpiercer, and the excellent monster movie The Host, is this creepy murder mystery thriller ‘Mother’ by Joon-ho Bong. This film does not fall into the standard Korean revenge template, resorting to an obscene usage of knives or brutal killings, but instead opts for unpredictability, beautiful cinematography and hits a deep emotional level that I haven’t come across in South Korean cinema for a long time. It’s simple, oddly funny in places but above all else it is captivating viewing. Highly recommended.
