221) Win Win (2011)
A struggling lawyer and volunteer wrestling coach’s chicanery comes back to haunt him when the teenage grandson of the client he has double-crossed comes into his life.
7/10 – I love The Station Agent and The Visitor, both are excellent films and it’s clear that Tom McCarthy has a talent for making humble and interesting dramas. Win Win was no different, exploring the trials and tribulations of wanting middle class success in a sentimental and realistic fashion. Much like his previous efforts, it comes across as a light hearted comedy and among all the cliches it hits that sweet spot that makes the film excel in it’s ‘human’ element. A terrific cast, well produced, and Paul Giamatti shines in his sheer ordinariness which just adds more value to the realness of the film. Well worth a watch.
