In Brooklyn, a youth from an Orthodox Jewish community is lured into becoming an Ecstasy dealer by his pal who has ties to an Israeli drug cartel.
6/10 – A simple and entertaining film, but it never quite finds the mark. Teetering between family values, drug circles and love triangles, had they focused on just one, or even two, it would have been that much more compelling. Eisenberg stands out as usual, carrying the fragmented plot through his excellent timing, typical awkwardness and convincing portrayal of a nice kid gone bad. There’s a underwhelming yet refreshing feeling when watching this film though, as he’s managed to maintain this innocence of his character throughout and I think this is achieved because aside from his performance, it’s not like your other drug films. It’s not particularly dark, no gun fights or deaths, no grizzly scenes or overdoses. That is an edge that some people look for in this type of film, and perhaps misleading based on the premise, but if you can shrug that expectation, you might see more in it than I did.
