8/10 – Finally got round to watching this, and was looking forward to it after all the hype surrounding it. It’s a good film, I wasn’t blown away by it but there’s no denying it’s a really good film. Leto and McConaughey were excellent, they were barely recognisable and I’m not just referring to their dramatic weight loss. It was hard hitting, well written and powerful, somehow adding moments of weird humour too, but I don’t know enough of the original story to comment on whether the truth has been watered down. As with most ‘inspired by true events’ films, I would imagine that some artistic liberty does get taken with the truth but that is to be expected. Either way, it is a film worth watching. A lot of people will have already seen this, so my recommendation will probably be redundant but if you haven’t, give it a go.
