Die Welle (2008)

163) The Wave (2008) “Die Welle” (Original title)

A high school teacher’s unusual experiment to demonstrate to his students what life is like under a dictatorship spins horribly out of control when he forms a social unit with a life of its own.

6/10 – I don’t think it’s as thought provoking as it thinks it is, nor is it as cool or as polished as it wants to be, but it is by no means a bad film. I thought it would be creepier and more sinister than it was, but it wasn’t a bad film. There are dubious performances from the cast, the typical ‘hippie’ girl, the outcast, the goths, the anarchists, all forming your stereotypical group of schoolkids, but despite all of that, it wasn’t a bad film.

Typing this out I’m having a hard time explaining why I liked it, I just did, just maybe not as much as I had hoped I would. Intriguing, exciting, yet underwhelming.
