161) Babel (2006)
Tragedy strikes a married couple on vacation in the Moroccan desert, touching off an interlocking story involving four different families.
8/10 – Director Alejandro González Iñárritu works his magic yet again much in the same vein as Amores Perros (2000) and 21 Grams (2003) in this intricate tale of fate and circumstance. Sure, it is essentially a play by play of his previous work; depressing, bleak, honest, but it is extremely well acted and although people will no doubt compare this style to Crash (2004), it’s worth keeping in mind that his two prior works in this theme were created before Crash was made. It’s not a competition, but to state that because he has used the same story telling device 3 times that it therefore lacks originality is ridiculous. Highly recommended.
