An altar boy is accused of murdering a priest, and the truth is buried several layers deep.
8/10 – Ed Nortons big screen debut is as good as they come. Primal Fear is everything you want from a crime thriller and more as it twists and turns through a thin and predictable plot, but that is neither here nor there as the on screen presence of Norton and Laura Linney (not so much Richard Gere) is what really holds this film together. Norton as we know went on to do Fight Club and American History X shortly after this, which is a testament to his performance here, and the director Gregory Hoblit also making his film debut went on to direct the excellent Fracture (Hopkins & Gosling). If you’re a fan of any of the above films, or simply want to see Norton steal the show, then this is definitely worth a watch.
