Ajami (2009)

149) Ajami (2009)

Ajami is the religiously mixed community of Muslims and Christians in Tel Aviv. These are five stories about the everyday life in Ajami.

9/10 – Incredible film, that was not only well acted but impeccably directed. It feels so authentic and raw, a similar feel to the way City of God or Gomorrah was executed. The plot was intricate but not confusing, a few ‘Crash’-like overlaps between chapters, as the timeline jumps about between past and present, but nothing that felt out of place. Overall, it was a powerful film that addresses personal problems as part of a much larger problem, and is probably quite timely given what’s going on in the ‘real world’; certainly anyone with a hint of an interest with what is happening in Gaza should consider this as essential viewing.
