The Summit (2012)

109) The Summit (2012)

The story of the deadliest day on the world’s most dangerous mountain, when 11 climbers mysteriously perished on K2.

7/10 – Not sure why this won an Editing prize at Sundance, because for me that was it’s biggest flaw. Chopping and changing between chronological approaches, to recreations, back to the beginning again – it made very little sense to edit it this way.

Other than that, The Summit is exactly what you expect it to be. A classic tale of Man vs Nature whereby Nature wins. No matter what preparations are made, one wrong move will seal your fate. It is well researched and goes into significant detail both regards to the mountain itself and the climbers on it. Visually stunning too, but that is marred by the tragedy the documentary sets out to explore.
