102) Election (2005) Original Title: Hak se wui
Rival gang leaders are locked in a struggle to become the new chairman of Hong Kong’s Triad society.
9/10 – Described by Tarantino as “The best film of the year (2005)”, this Hong Kong gangster epic does not disappoint. An excellent portrayal of family feuds, triad traditions and the bloody crime world that supports it all. It is intense, violent and realistic, and if this is anything to go by, I cannot wait to watch the critically acclaimed sequel Election 2 (Triad Election) next.
