94) Love Liza (2002)
Following the unexplained suicide of his wife Liza, a web designer turns to gasoline fumes and remote-control airplanes while avoiding an inevitable conflict with his mother-in-law.
6/10 – Pitched as a ‘Tragicomedy’, the film leans more towards tragedy than comedy. There are brief moments of dark comedy among the depressing tediousness, but above all is a monotonous tale of loneliness, grief and escapism. Taking into account the little information we are given, and the lack of character development, it is hard to imagine any one else delivering a performance like Hoffman did to the extent that he alone made this film bearable.
