Forks Over Knives (2011)

88) Forks Over Knives (2011)

Examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods.

5/10 – A load of Vegan Propaganda, but an interesting discussion point nonetheless. It’s a discussion that could be more suitable to Americans than anyone else, since the implications of having to pay for the Diabetic medications and the health issues facing America as a nation are far worse than anywhere else in the western world.

Forks Over Knives puts forward the argument that you should not eat any meat or any dairy. It uses “science” (rats being forcefed protein, Nazi food rations and selective evidence) to illustrate that an increase in these food groups leads to an increase in the risk of some of the worst diseases out there. They follow individuals as they adopt this diet, most of which are overweight and on an obscene amount of medication, all of whom manage to lose weight and get off the medication. Who’d have thought that cutting out fatty foods, eating less, and not taking drugs would reduce weight and side effects.

There are a number of websites out there that aim to debunk a lot of this. The most comprehensive was this from Anthony Colpo, where he draws on his own take on the Chinese research shown in the film, and Denise Minger‘s extensive take on the documentary itself.

As with any documentary you have to consider the alternate agenda they are putting forward, but this was just too Anti-Meat for it to ever be totally convincing. There are elements you can use, but most of us already know it. Don’t adopt a strictly Vegan diet off the back of this, it looks thoroughly miserable, just eat less crappy foods.

“Eat to live, not live to eat”… I’d rather die if it meant eating nothing but leaves.
