81) Friend (2001) [Original Title: Chin-gu]
Despite their different family backgrounds, four friends grew up together in the wearisome years of the 70s. But as time goes by, each of them takes a different life path. Slowly life takes difficult turns where friends become rivals in the crime world.
7/10 – A solid gangster film that sort of loses it’s way in the middle as the plot jumps about from decade to decade. Plenty of names to remember, allegiances to track and appearance changes to factor in, it would definitely benefit from a second viewing. Certainly not my favourite Korean movie, but has enough of the standard revenge, betrayal, friendship and violence that makes it worth checking out nonetheless.
