62) Stone (2010)

A convicted arsonist looks to manipulate a parole officer into a plan to secure his parole by placing his beautiful wife in the lawman’s path.

6/10 – I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. It is shrouded in negative reviews but I was compelled to watch it based on the cast alone. Ed Norton plays the desperate convict extremely well, with an accent that did not detract from a fine performance. De Niro is the Parole officer, a job in which he gets to judge to fate of others, but he has no-one there to judge him and his inner demons. Finally, Milla Jovovich embraces the slightly disturbing but equally desperate wife of Nortons character, and gives an unnerving display.

It was a slow paced film, a thriller without the thrill you could say. The tight cast and individual performances carry this film through to the end, but in terms of a compelling, conniving and action packed story-line viewers expected based on the marketing of the film, I can understand some level of disappointment.
