Mystery Road (2013)

46) Mystery Road (2013)

An indigenous detective returns to the Outback to investigate the murder of a young girl.

8/10 – A dry humoured, naturally restrained, modern western movie. It was beautifully shot, and had an incredible lead performance from Aaron Pederson who was in pretty much every single scene. It rambles along for the most part which at times did tend to drag, but as it does so it touches upon the bleak issues that trouble parts of Australia (Racism, Poverty, Drugs, Prostitution), and is enough to keep the movie trundling along. However, the standard battle of ‘good cop in a bad town’, and the impending finale of either triumph or failure is the real winner and one that makes the 2 hours worthwhile.
