35) Monster (2003)
Based on the life of Aileen Wuornos, a Daytona Beach prostitute who became a serial killer.
7/10 – It’s always that little bit more interesting when it’s based on a true story. I can’t quite understand why it received the acclaim it did though – Theron absolutely transformed herself to play this role, and embodies the nutjob serial killer Aileen – she is practically unrecognisable. Aside from that though, it took a few artistic liberties with the inclusion of a fictional love story and had a lazy script.
Also, it played ‘Journey – Small Town Girl‘ twice in the film, a track that was awful to begin with, and has been made worse by Glee and idiots in Student Union bars who rate this easily their favourite song after Mr Brightside and love to point and act out the lyrics screeching “omg this is our song”…. and for that reason, I would not recommend.
But if you can see past the annoyance of that track, then by all means watch it, if not just for Therons performance.
